“My concept is to apply the principle of open source to business transformation: open the discussion to everyone and integrate employee feedback.” At 33, Mayara Marinovic Baccan, who is responsible for Sanofi’s digital transformation, wants to ensure that employees are actors of change and are not subjected to it.
“Instead of transforming the company or the employees, the idea is to transform it with them,” explains this woman from Brazil. In her position, the graduate of the University of São Paulo, in pharmacy and biochemistry, puts her skills to the service of her passion for digital technology. “I’ve always been a geek!” she exclaims, grabbing her tablet and smartphone.
For over three years, she has been scrutinizing innovations in digital technology, thinking about ways to implement them and the necessary training. The feedback from 2,600 employees in the digital division, through surveys and meetings, is bearing fruit. For example, her team of 14 people realized that the motto “Sanofi first” was not well understood. While the idea is to prioritize decisions that benefit the entire group, some thought it meant putting the company before patients. So it evolved into “One Sanofi.”
Mayara Marinovic Baccan also teaches digital transformation courses at Skema Business School. An opportunity to exchange with professors and students who “ask questions you don’t expect”. And to learn alongside them.
