Mazda has prepared a special version of the MX-5 Roadster for the Tokyo show, with the car being called the Mazda Spirit Racing Roadster 12R in Japan.
Mazda Spirit Racing will become the brand’s new high-performance division, replacing Mazdaspeed. The Mazda Spirit Racing name has been used since 2021 in the Japanese Super Taikyu series, and this special model will be the division’s first passenger model.
The car received a modified front end with a new splitter and a special badge on the hood. There’s also Aero Gray paint, decals, a set of six-spoke Rays TE37 black wheels, Yokohama Advan AD09 tires, Bilstein shocks, Brembo brakes, red brake calipers, a Fujitsubo exhaust system, redesigned side skirts, a rear spoiler, and Recaro seats. and a sports steering wheel with alcantara.
Under the hood is a 2.0-liter engine (boosted from 181 hp to 197 hp), paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.
The series is limited to 200 copies (at a price of 7 million yen or 43,105 euros per piece), and production will start in the fall.
