Mazda's Tesla Model 3 competitor at the Brussels Motor Show

The Mazda 6E shone at the Brussels Motor Show. A beautiful, fully electric business car.

After the somewhat disappointing MX-30 (nice design, small range), they now come with something that really gets us excited: the Mazda6e! It’s not an SUV. Hallelujah! A normal, sleek 5-door hatchback (with the looks of a sedan). Looks good, with those clean lines and that beautiful silhouette. But something seems a little out of proportion. The wheels are a bit small for the body. This is probably the result of the choice that Mazda made to base the car on the Changan Deepal SL03 sold in China. A car that came onto the market in February last year.

Prices are not yet known, but Mazda will probably compete with cars such as the Tesla Model 3 with the 6e. The range: up to 552 kilometers for the Long Range version. That’s serious! Fast charging is also excellent, with 200 kW DC charging. From 10 to 80 percent in 22 minutes, or just 15 minutes on the charger for an extra 235 km of range.

Two flavors, rear-wheel drive as standard

There will be two versions: the ‘normal’ 6th with 479 km range and 258 hp, and the Long Range with 552 km and 245 hp. Both with rear wheel drive! Tasty! And they can also tow 1500 kg. So you can take your caravan with you on holiday.

Design and luxury: perfectly fine

Mazda is of course known for its beautiful design, and the 6e is no exception. They call it “Kodo: Soul of Motion”. The interior is also such a treat. Inspired by Japanese minimalism, with lots of space and beautiful materials. And the tech: a 14.6-inch touchscreen, a head-up display and a Sony sound system with 14 speakers.

Useful features and safe functions

And then some useful extras: an app to preheat or cool the car, mood lighting, climate control and “Smart Modes” for different situations. And of course safety has also been taken into account, with nine airbags and a lot of driver assistance systems.

In the showroom from the summer, for a price under 45,000 euros. That’s not nothing, but at first glance you get a premium car in return. You just have to be able to live with those wheels. The Mazda 6e finally seems to be the electric car we’ve been waiting for from Mazda. Beautiful design, good performance, a long range and a luxurious interior.
