McLaren has announced the release date of its new supercar. We will meet the successor of McLaren F1 on October 6.
According to the latest information, the successor to the McLaren P1 is to be presented next month. The new hypercar, codenamed P18, must meet high demands.
A few days ago, McLaren published a video in which two iconic models of the British manufacturer were presented in retrospect: the F1 and the P1. The company also hinted that it was preparing something new. Following this clip, McLaren posted a teaser featuring several key people from within the company discussing what the McLaren “1” really stands for.
McLaren says the ‘1’ models must be timeless, they must be theatrical and they must be the best-sounding, most beautiful-looking and best-performing cars of their kind. The company concludes this by announcing that we will be introduced to a new such McLaren on October 6.
McLaren is preparing the launch of its new hypercar
Carscoops reports that the teaser doesn’t confirm whether the new car will be fully revealed on October 6, or if McLaren simply plans to unveil its next hypercar on that date, perhaps with more teasers. Whatever the case, it clearly shows that the new creation of the British manufacturer is waiting to be revealed to the public.
We don’t know what the cars name will be, only that the new model is known as the P18 code. However, given the emphasis on the number 1 in the teaser released by McLaren, we can expect a name in the theme of the predecessors F1 and P1.
Regardless of what name the new hypercar will bear, it will have to represent something very special, encompassing everything that McLaren has to offer. The car could use a V8 engine unrelated to the one found in the 750S, and will be complemented by a hybrid system that is around 70% lighter than McLaren’s current hybrid systems. Power should exceed the 1,000 hp mark.
