McLaren has extended Andrea Stella’s contract

McLaren and Andrea Stella have signed a new multi-year contract, with the Italian remaining in charge of the British team for the next few years. Stella replaced Andreas Seidl at the end of 2022 and under his leadership McLaren has shown significant improvement.

From the slowest team at the start of 2023, McLaren are now arguably the fastest team on the grid and are laying claim to the constructors’ championship, sitting just 42 points behind Red Bull.

Stella stated:

It is a privilege to be part of the McLaren Formula 1 team and I am honored to continue in my role as team principal. We have made great strides forward in the last year and a half and we still have a lot of work to do to consistently compete at the front of the grid, which is an exciting challenge.

Success comes through team collaboration and I enjoy my role, which has allowed me to help unlock individual talent and empower people to work together towards our team goals.

I thank Zak (Brown) for his confidence in me as a leader, the entire leadership team and all my colleagues on the team for their continued cooperation and support. I am excited about what we can continue to achieve together.

Zak Brown added:

I am delighted to confirm that we have extended Andrea’s contract as head of our F1 team for a number of years. His outstanding leadership, expertise and respect for the team and Formula 1 means we couldn’t have a better man in this position to continue the drive to consistently fight at the front of the grid.

His impact on McLaren F1 in his role as team principal has been profound, not only through our results on the track and the team’s performance but also in the development of our culture and mindset.

With the multi-year contracts of Lando, Oscar and Andrea, we can confidently continue our quest to become World Champions. We look forward to the years ahead under Andrea’s leadership.
