On Sunday, October 6, McLaren will present the successor to the P1, which will be called the W1, with the company even releasing the logo of the car that will be released in a limited production of 399 cars.
The new model is codenamed P18, which according to some McLaren dealers who have seen it, says it combines the elegant lines of the P1 with the technical virtues of the Senna.
The car will not feature the company’s signature upward-opening doors, but will be equipped with gullwing doors. The design of the lighting bodies will be new, there will be “floating wings”, air intakes on the hood and air vents on the third pillar. In addition, there will be more air intakes in the rear struts and active aerodynamics in the front splitter.
The engine will produce more than 1,000 horsepower, with the hypercar based on an all-new carbon monocoque chassis. The seats will be integrated into the frame to reduce weight and increase stiffness, with some suspension components being 3D printed.
The W1 will be powered by an all-new plug-in hybrid system, unrelated to any other McLaren. It will carry a V8 engine developed in collaboration with Riccardo, while the hybrid system is said to be 70% lighter than Artura’s hybrid unit.
The battery is high density and lighter, derived from McLaren’s F1 car. Still, steering precision is said to be better than ever, with McLaren sticking with hydraulic steering as well as hydraulic suspension.
