McLaren W1 in the first pictures

While we wait for McLaren to officially present its new hypercar called the W1 tomorrow, its first pictures have already appeared in public.

The promotion date of October 6 was chosen to celebrate 50 years since McLaren won its first F1 Constructors’ title and Emerson Fittipaldi won the F1 Drivers’ Championship.

The car’s name “celebrates McLaren’s way of thinking about the World Championship”. An announcement video showing the predecessors of the W1 along with the logo of the new model was also published.

Although there are not all the details yet, it is known that the new model comes with a plug-in hybrid drive with a new V8 engine and that it will have more than the 916 hp that the first McLaren P1 had. More precisely, the combined power of the W1 is 1218 hp and 1340 Nm of torque.

As far as other details are concerned, for now there is mention of a generous use of carbon fiber, as well as an active rear spoiler along with other aero features derived from Formula 1 cars.

The announcement also points out that the car “challenges the limits of possibility, reflecting the fine poetry between design and engineering.” Also, the new car will be “the next icon, the next benchmark. The best looks, sound, performance… A car that must define a generation and absolutely be the pinnacle and representation of McLaren’s DNA.”

The new McLaren W1 will cost around 2.6 million euros, with a limited production of 399 copies. This number makes it less exclusive compared to its predecessors the F1 (106 units) and the P1 (375 units), but still rare enough to become a collector’s car.
