McLaren’s new hypercar will be called W1. Here’s what we know

It’s been more than a decade since production of the McLaren P1 began. Now the time of his heir is about to arrive. It will be called McLaren W1, a name that remains faithful to the supercars of the English company. A saga that began with F1 and continued with the 2013 hybrid.

The company itself is announcing the upcoming debut of the new top of the range from Woking with a video showing the F1 and P1 side by side with various employees describing what makes them so special. Finally, a date and time appear on the screen: October 61pm British summer time (so our 2pm). Let’s now see what we know about the new McLaren hypercar.

A preview announced

At the center of the McLaren W1 project – according to some rumors already shown to some dealerships – there should be a new hybrid powertrain engine with a new V8 combustion engine, ready to replace the current equal split, also used by the P1.

Its plug-in powertrain delivered 916 CV e 900 Nm of torque, accompanied by an ingenious hydraulic lattice suspension system and active aerodynamics, which guaranteed top performance for the period.

Since then McLaren has made other hypercars, the Senna, the Speedtail and the Elva, but none have been as important (and extreme) as the P1, or the F1 before it.
