BERLIN – Dozens of thousands of employees in restaurants and cafeterias like McDonalds and Starbucks across Germany are going on strike.
The NGG unions have called for a warning strike in the so-called systemic gastronomy, which includes, among others, Burger King (King) and Pizza Hut (Pizza Hut), since the second round of negotiations on the collective agreement ended without results.
Further negotiations in this branch with 120,000 employees should take place only in November – later than originally planned.
The NGG criticized the employers for “not moving even a millimeter towards the demands of the employees” during the second round.
This is why we are going on strike, said the chief negotiator of the restaurant Mark Baumajster (Baumeister).
Prices in Germany have risen in the last few years, Baumeister reminded, adding that employees have a “huge need to make up for salary arrears”.
“They expect real relief and significantly more money – instead, the employers did not even bring a new offer for the second round of negotiations. This is absolute disrespect for the employees,” said Baumeister.
NGG demands, among other things, a starting salary of 15 euros per hour for employees with the lowest salaries. DPA
