Mediatek Schedules Dimensity 9400 Release for October 9, 2024 Fierce Competition for Qualcomm

Through a post on the Weibo social network, the Taiwanese company Mediatek announced that it will release a “new generation” of its products on October 9, 2024. Mediatek is one of the most well-known manufacturers of chips for mobile devices and the main competition of the manufacturer Qualcomm from this market.

Even though Mediatek’s announcement on Weibo didn’t mention any specific products, it’s likely that the Taiwanese company will launch its new Dimensity 9400 series of mobile processors. This could be the first chip dedicated to devices running the Android operating system capable of ” take the plunge” with the newly launched Apple A18 Pro, found in the recent iPhone 16 Pro models.

According to rumors, the Mediatek Dimensity 9400 would be the most “generous” processor of its kind ever created for a mobile device, with no less than 30 billion transistors. For comparison, the Apple A17 Pro processor used in the iPhone 15 Pro smartphones benefits from “only” 19 billion transistors.

Competition for Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 from Qualcomm

Coupled with the 3nm build, this architecture would allow a Mediatek Dimensity 9400 to achieve a better multi-core score than the A18 Pro in the Geekbench benchmark tool, being competitive in terms of single core performance as well. It’s not Apple that should be afraid of this processor, but Qualcomm, with its upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, expected on the market later in October of this year.

The top performance promised by Dimensity 9400 would be possible thanks to the eight cores of the CPU: one high-performance Cortex-X925 type, clocked at 3.63 GHz, three high-performance Cortex-X4 cores, clocked at 2.8 GHz , coupled with four other energy-efficient Cortex-A725 cores clocked at 2.1 GHz. The picture is completed by an Immortalis-G925 MC12 GPU, one of the most promising now available in this segment. Also, considering the current trend involving hardware acceleration of AI-based functions, we expect the Dimensity 9400 to also include an NPU (neural processing unit) dedicated to artificial intelligence.

It is rumored that the first phones to use this chip will be the standard and Pro models of Oppo’s Find X8 series. Vivo is also said to integrate the Dimensity 9400 into certain models of the X200 series, scheduled for release shortly after the new chip from Mediatek hits the market.
