(Health Korea News / Yoo Ji-in) ‘Medical 24 Hours’ is a corner that shows brief news related to the medical field that is often overlooked in the media. It may seem like trivial news, but it could be valuable information to someone, so I’m only summarizing the facts.
Around 10:15 a.m. on the 7th. 119 rescue team members from the Gangseo Fire Department were dispatched to the lake park within the Seoul Botanical Garden to rescue a drowning person in the lake.
Rescue workers broke through the ice at the point where the accident occurred, donned dry suits, and rescued the drowning person. Immediately upon rescue, the paramedics administered first aid and requested a helicopter from the 119th Aviation Squadron to transport the drowned person. After the accident occurred, it took about 5 minutes for the helicopter belonging to the 119th Aviation Corps to arrive at the accident site. The drowned person who climbed onto the helicopter using a hoist was transported to Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital (Director Joo Woong), where the heliport is located. It took only three minutes to arrive at the Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital heliport from the accident site.
At Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital, which received news of the drowning person’s transport, the emergency room medical staff prepared and stood by for patient transport and treatment before the helicopter arrived. As soon as the hospital security official radioed that the helicopter had arrived, the medical staff arrived at the heliport in an elevator dedicated to transporting emergency patients and took over the patient from the rescue workers.
It took only 5 minutes for the patient to come down to the emergency room with the medical staff and receive emergency treatment. The total time it took for him to fall into the cold, icy water, receive treatment at the hospital emergency room, and maintain his life was only about 10 minutes. This is the result of joint training conducted by the Gangseo Fire Department, 119th Aviation Corps, and Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital to prepare for water accidents during the winter.
Although it is a simulation situation rather than a real situation, these organizations gained confidence in transporting and treating emergency patients by helicopter through this training. These organizations held a general meeting in the emergency room of Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital on the morning of the 24th of last month and prepared the training in detail, including training location, method, and number of participants.
