(Health Korea News / Park Won-jin) “Emergency rooms have already become a mess, but the government is blocking the eyes and ears of the people by lying that the emergency medical field is being run well, and is abandoning the safety and lives of the people by irresponsibly saying that the condition is mild when a phone call is possible.”
The medical community has once again criticized the government’s incompetence and irresponsibility.
The National Medical School Professors Emergency Response Committee (NMC), the National Medical School Professors’ Council, the Korean Medical Association, and the Korean Medical Association issued a statement on the 11th urging the government to change its policy to resolve the medical crisis through the ‘Medical Community’s Position Statement to the People Who Are Concerned About the Chuseok Holiday Medical Crisis.’
In their statement, they expressed their sympathy, saying, “The public’s worries and anxieties have grown due to the medical malpractice scandal that has lasted more than half a year,” and “The medical community feels the public’s hardships and concerns and feels sorry for them. In particular, whenever we hear news of unfortunate deaths due to the collapse of the emergency medical system, we doctors feel deep sadness and frustration.”
He continued, “The emergency room has become a scene of chaos, but they are making every effort to save even a single life,” and criticized the government for “destroying the people’s eyes and ears with lies that the emergency medical service is being run well, and abandoning the people’s safety and lives by irresponsibly saying that the condition is mild when a phone call is possible.” He then said, “The people are now well aware of the government’s failures and atrocities, so I will say no more.”
The medical community urged, “The government should stop its tyranny before it is too late and return to the path of truly caring for the safety and lives of the people.” They emphasized that they should first sincerely apologize to the people, hold accountable those responsible for causing the medical malpractice scandal, and show a willingness to have a dialogue that both the people and doctors can agree on. They also said that this is a stern order from many people.
Below is the full statement.
Statement from the medical community to citizens who are concerned about the Chuseok holiday medical crisis
Dear citizens,
As the medical malpractice situation has been causing much inconvenience and difficulty for over half a year, the medical chaos during the Chuseok holiday is expected, and the public’s worries and anxiety are growing. We in the medical community are feeling the public’s hardships and concerns and are heartbroken. All doctors want cooperation and dialogue to resolve this situation.
Especially, whenever we hear news of unfortunate deaths due to the recent collapse of the emergency medical system, our doctors feel deep sorrow and frustration. The emergency room is a mess, but we are making every effort to save even a single life.
However, the government is blocking the eyes and ears of the people by lying that the emergency medical field is being operated well, and is abandoning the safety and lives of the people by irresponsibly saying that the situation is mild when a phone call is possible. Since the people are well aware of this government’s failures and atrocities, I will not say anything more.
We urge the government to stop its tyranny before it is too late and return to the path of truly caring for the safety and lives of the people. First, it must show a sincere apology to the people, hold accountable those responsible for causing the medical malpractice scandal, and show a willingness to have a dialogue that both the people and doctors can agree on. This is also a stern order from many people.
Dear citizens, I know you are very worried about the Chuseok holiday medical gap, but regardless of the government’s change in attitude, our doctors will do their best to protect the health and lives of the people. With a desperate heart that does not want to lose even a single patient, we will struggle in the field as we have done so far in our respective positions.
For the sake of the precious lives and safety of our citizens and the normalization of national healthcare, this medical corruption must end as soon as possible. We ask the citizens to speak out to the government so that genuine and effective dialogue, not a formality, can take place and an agreement can be reached.
In order to prevent further damage to the people and stop the collapse of the Korean medical system, I hope that the government will give up its stubbornness and show a practical and forward-looking change in attitude. I also ask the people to lend their strength and will to the voice of our medical community. Our doctors will do their best to guard the field so that you can have a healthy and safe Chuseok holiday.
