The story of a paramedic who was traveling saving the life of a woman in her 60s who had lost consciousness and collapsed on a passenger plane through emergency treatment has become a hot topic.
According to the Busan Fire and Disaster Headquarters on the 22nd, at around 11 am on the 9th, a woman in her 60s, Ms. A, lost consciousness and collapsed on a Vietnam Airlines passenger plane that departed from Gimhae Airport and was heading to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Firefighter Kim Joo-shin, a paramedic from the Busan Gangseo Fire Station Signal 119 Safety Center who was on board the aircraft, heard the urgent in-flight announcement from the flight attendants asking for medical help and immediately ran towards Mr. A.
At that time, Mr. A was receiving CPR from his family, but he was unconscious and only a pulse could be detected from his carotid artery. Firefighter Kim, who judged that he had fallen into shock due to a sudden drop in blood pressure, performed the emergency treatment of ‘lower leg elevation’, which raised Mr. A’s legs above his heart. Mr. A regained consciousness immediately after Firefighter Kim’s emergency treatment, and his blood pressure and pulse returned to normal.
When the plane landed in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, Mr. A was able to walk off the plane by himself. The Vietnam Airlines captain and crew wrote a letter to Firefighter Kim expressing their gratitude, and Mr. A visited Firefighter Kim’s workplace in person on the 20th to express his gratitude.
Firefighter Kim said, “When I heard the announcement to find a medical professional on the plane, my body moved involuntarily, and I immediately ran to check on the patient and thought, ‘I have to save him. ’” He added, “I felt a great sense of accomplishment when the patient came to me in person, healthy, to express his gratitude.”
