It reflects both the breadth and depth of Swedish engineering and gives us an opportunity to pay tribute to those whose work improves our world.

Engineers shaping our future

This year’s finalists represent the best in their respective fields and have all contributed to advancing technology development. Here are the finalists for the Stora Ingenjörpriset 2024, divided by category:

Sustainability (awarded by Skanska)

The Stora Ingenjörpriset in sustainability is awarded to engineers who have made significant efforts to promote sustainable development and reduce the climate footprint.

Johanna Stjernström – Stockholm City Exploatering, Björn Jarme and Marcus Nord – Vattenfall Services, Martin Lidstrand – Trifilon. Finalists in the Sustainability category.

Johanna Stjernström – Stockholms Stad Exploatering

Johanna is the project manager for the construction project “Persikan” in Stockholm, where fossil-free and fully electric earthworks are carried out in a developing urban area. Several new types of electric work machines are demonstrated, along with flexible energy storage solutions. This work is groundbreaking and aims to create a construction site with zero emissions from work machines and tools. Johanna leads the work with knowledge, enthusiasm and a strong commitment to sustainability and innovation.

Marcus Nord and Björn Jarme – Vattenfall Services

Marcus and Björn have developed AMS-HEC (Work with Voltage – Human External Cargo), a work method that enables maintenance on our main grid – the highways of the electricity grid – while maintaining full operation. Technicians hang below a twin-engine helicopter and perform maintenance work on live lines with up to 400,000 volts, which saves billions of kroner and avoids costly power outages. The method is both safe and gentle for the technicians and has never before been used in Sweden.

    Martin Lidstrand – Trifilon

Martin Lidstrand is CTO at Trifilon, which develops climate-friendly materials to replace fossil-based plastics. Trifilon uses natural fibers such as hemp, flax and cellulose to create biocomposite products that can be used in a range of products, including suitcases, consumer electronics and electric motorcycle parts. Martin’s work is a step to reduce our consumption of fossil raw materials and contribute to a circular economy.

Innovation (awarded by Vattenfall)

The Stora Ingenjörspriset in innovation recognizes engineers who have developed new technologies or solutions that can change the way we live and work.
