Francesco Guccini speaks in an interview with Fatto Quotidiano about the government in office: “They are illiberal and do not accept criticism”. On Meloni: “Once he called me to invite me to Atreju: imagine if I go there”.
The opinion of Francesco Guccini it always counts and when the singer-songwriter from Pavana, now 84 years old, speaks, it never goes unnoticed. In the latest interview given to Il Fatto Quotidiano, Guccini spoke about himself on the occasion of the release of his latest book, evidently called expressing himself on contemporaneity, the facts related to politics, both at home and in America, a few hours after Vasco Rossi’s words on the return of fascism.
Guccini’s words on the government
“I didn’t expect it from him,” said Guccini speaking of Vasco Rossi and recalling their only meeting: “We both had fathers interned, mine was in the concentration camp with Guareschi. He had courage, I liked him and he said true things. In fact the regime immediately attacked him”. Guccini focuses precisely on the word regime, alluding to the government in office led by Giorgia Meloni: “They want to make all the powers (starting from the judiciary) subordinate to the executive one (i.e. the government). They will try to refine the Constitution: I’m not saying modify it, they wouldn’t be capable of doing so, but they would be able to refine it. Meloni doesn’t even grant interviews, unless both at Vespa, where it makes a fool of itself like the calculator. They are illiberal and do not accept criticism“.

“Meloni called me to invite me to Atreju”
An opinion on Meloni that will certainly disappoint the prime minister, who in the past had expressed her esteem for Guccini: “It’s not my fault if he didn’t understand anything about my songs. He once called me to invite me to Atreju: but imagine that! They’re trying to replace ‘the left-wing cultural hegemony’ by placing five losers at Culture, but they have nothing.” The cultural reorganization is, in fact, an aspect that is very close to the hearts of the current majority, but Guccini is radical on the issue: “No quality right-wing singer-songwriter. It’s not that I, De André and Vecchioni had it in our heads to ‘spread left-wing culture’: you simply can’t not have a left-wing sensibility to write certain songs.”
