Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni is closely following the case of Italian journalist Cecilia Sala and is making every effort to get her released from the notorious Evin prison in Tehran, where she has been held since December 19 on unknown charges, the Prime Minister’s office announced today.
The announcement states that Meloni is in constant contact with the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, as well as with the Secretary of the Government, Alfredo Mantovano, in order for the Italian journalist to return home as soon as possible, ANSA reported.
The arrested correspondent of the Italian newspaper “Foljo” from Iran, Cecilia Sala, is in solitary confinement in the notorious Evin prison in Tehran, and the charges against her are not yet known, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said on Friday.
He said, after the visit of the Italian ambassador to Tehran, Cecilia Sala, earlier on Friday, that the journalist is fine and that Italy is working to bring her back to the country.
