MEO breaks records without Wi-Fi and 5G

MEO broke records at the Web Summit and reaffirms the operator’s ability to offer excellent infrastructure and services. Discover the numbers achieved in what is considered one of the biggest technological competitions in the world.

MEO presented the balance of its operation, as technological partner of Web Summit 2024, highlighting the robust and innovative infrastructure that guaranteed an excellent experience for all participants. Common record number of 71,528 participants from 153 countriesincluding entrepreneurs, investors, startups and journalists, the event featured continuous, reliable and secure connectivity throughout the four days.

During the summit, the MEO processed a total volume of data traffic of 63 terabytes (TB) across all its networks, reflecting the high level of usage by participants and the need for a network that supports intensive, real-time interactions.

Mobile network and 5G

Mobile traffic in 5G: 54% of traffic processed on Web Summit's mobile network was supported by 5G technology, which offered superior speeds and minimum latencies. This traffic was essential to guarantee quality in live broadcasts, technological demonstrations and interactive experiences that depended on stable and fast connections.
MEO's 5G coverage was reinforced with state-of-the-art equipment, with a view to simultaneously supporting thousands of users and ensuring high-quality connectivity throughout the event venue.

Wi-Fi Network

Single Wi-Fi Sessions: more than 4 million unique sessions were established on the Wi-Fi network, highlighting the high demand and confidence in the connectivity infrastructure offered by MEO.
Unique connected devices: more than 33 thousand unique devices were registered connected to the Wi-Fi network, highlighting the reach and capacity of the infrastructure to support the connectivity of thousands of users simultaneously and without interruptions.

The success of Web Summit 2024 reinforces MEO's ability to be present at important moments for the country, reaffirming its position as the sector's leading operator in Portugal.
