The ground-breaking off-roader, ‘Born in Affalterbach’, is based on the company’s all-electric AMG.EA high-performance platform. The development vehicles are due to undergo initial test runs this winter. It is the first time in its 57-year history that Mercedes-AMG has developed an SUV entirely in-house.
In this SUV, Mercedes AMG designs the entire vehicle architecture for the first time. This full-size SUV will be the second model to be built on the all-electric AMG.EA high-performance platform. It is also the sixth vehicle to be fully developed by the performance specialists from Affalterbach, joining the first model built on the AMG.EA platform currently in testing, as well as the GT, SL models in the previous generation GT and SLS.

High-performance SUVs have long been a cornerstone of AMG’s model range. More than 25 years ago, the performance and sports car brand from Affalterbach pioneered this segment with the launch of the ML 55 AMG.
The high-performance off-roader segment quickly won the hearts of customers, achieving strong growth rates ever since. Today, Mercedes AMG has six SUV model lines, including the GLA, GLB, GLC, GLE, GLS and EQE SUVs. The iconic Geländewagen Mercedes AMG G 63 (combined energy consumption: 15.7 14.7 l/100 km | combined CO₂ emissions: 358-335 g/km | CO₂ class: G) is the jewel of the off-road range in terms of performance.

“SUVs have been among our most popular models for many years. With the SUV “Born in Affalterbach” we respond to this trend by offering our customers a truly exciting high-performance off-road vehicle based on the AMG.EA platform. Our new high-performance architecture follows a clear philosophy: “AMG First, EV Second”. This means that the vehicles not only excel as electric vehicles, but also embody key AMG qualities such as emotion and performance.”
