- The full-size SUV will become the second vehicle on the all-electric AMG.EA platform
- The high-performance off-road vehicle is shortly before its first test drive
- The vehicle takes the successful history of AMG brand SUVs to a new level
For the first time in its 57-year history, the Mercedes-AMG brand is developing its own SUV from scratch. The first all-terrain vehicle under the slogan “Born in Affalterbach” is built on AMG.EA’s own electric high-performance platform. The development vehicles will undergo their first test drives already this winter.
High-performance SUVs have been an integral part of the AMG portfolio for many years. The performance and sports car brand from Affalterbach established this segment with the ML 55 AMG model 25 years ago. The class of high-performance off-road vehicles quickly won the hearts of customers and has seen a high rate of growth since then. Today, the Mercedes-AMG brand offers a total of six SUV lines within the GLA, GLB, GLC, GLE, GLS and EQE SUV models. The brand’s portfolio also includes the Mercedes‑AMG G 63 model (combined energy consumption: 15.7 ‒ 14.7 l/100 km | combined CO₂ emissions: 358 ‒ 335 g/km)(1)– performance off-road vehicle icon.
In the case of the current SUV project, the Mercedes-AMG brand is developing the entire vehicle architecture in-house for the first time. The full-size SUV will be the second model built on the all-electric AMG.EA high-performance platform. It is also the sixth vehicle to be completely developed by the high-performance specialists from Affalterbach – alongside the first AMG.EA model, which is already in the testing phaseand after the current GT, SL models and previous generations of GT and SLS models.
“SUVs have been among our most popular models for many years.
Now, for the first time, we are paying tribute to this development with an SUV under the slogan “Born in Affalterbach”.
We thus offer our customers an absolutely fascinating high-performance off-road vehicle based on the AMG.EA platform.
For the solutions within our new high-performance platform, the following applies: “First of all AMG, then electric car”.
This means that the vehicles will not only be excellent electric cars, but will also convince in the field of classic properties typical of the AMG brand, such as emotion and performance.”
Michael Schiebe, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mercedes-AMG GmbH and Head of Business Divisions Mercedes-Benz G-Class and Mercedes-Maybach
