Mercedes could say goodbye to SUV coupes

They passed well 16 years old since the arrival on the market of the first SUV Coupé in history, the BMW and present some direct competitors.

And Mercedes was the second to pull the first out of the hat GLE Coupeway back in 2015, a car with sleek lines which, also in this case and like the smaller GLC Coupé that arrived later, was appreciated above all in countries like Italy.

But the world and the market are constantly changing, we know this, and according to a brief analysis by the German magazine Handelsblattthe two Star coupés could soon abandon us forever, as Mercedes itself continues to reduce their production. Here’s everything we know.

A single model?

The news reported by the German magazine cites some “internal insiders” as sources, so it clearly needs to be taken with due precautions.

To go into more detail, though, according to the same people I spoke to Handelsblattone of the solutions to avoid eliminating two such important models from the range could be to bring them together in a single model, just as the company has just done with the new CLE: something that would certainly make sense, given the continuous effort of Mercedes-Benz to simplify its range.

Reportedly, a new version of the GLChowever, would be arriving as early as 2026, but it is unclear whether it will retain the coupe body style or even the GLC name.

For its part, Mercedes-Benz has just updated the two SUVs, with new engines and variants ibride plug-in even more efficient and performing. So it is still early to talk about it and we will have to wait a few more years to find out more.
