Apple is also bringing the iPhone 15 Pro’s action button to the iPhone 16 Pro and the regular iPhone 16. An action button that you can ‘program’ yourself is very useful. So useful, that the Meta Quest 3S VR headset may also get one, although it is slightly less flexible.
More information about the action button can be found on a Meta Quest help page, Uploadvr. It reads: “The action button on the Meta Quest 3S can be found on the bottom right side of the headset. Press the action button to switch between your room view and the full, virtual environment.
Passthrough-knop
So it’s not really an action button, because you can’t choose what the button does. It is useful to be able to quickly switch between augmented reality (passthrough) and virtual reality. If you want to quickly switch between the two on Meta Quest 3, Meta Quest Pro and Meta Quest 2, you can turn on ‘double tap for passthrough’. With this, you only have to tap the right or left side of your headset to switch between the room view and the game or other virtual experience that takes over the entire screen.
Handy when someone asks you something or you wonder what you feel along your leg (don’t worry, probably your pet) and you want to quickly check if your thought is correct. Or when a game gets a little too scary and you want to remind yourself that you are just standing in the safety of your own living room.
Meta Quest 3S
This isn’t the first time Meta has mentioned the upcoming Meta Quest 3S. It’s also been mentioned in other support posts and even on the Quest Store. The company’s CTO had the Quest 3S in the background in a video. Meta’s worst-kept secret is the cheaper version of the Quest 3, which features the same Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor and colored graphics (including real-world graphics) as the Quest 3.
However, an older lens and one panel are used as we know from Quest 2, to keep the price between 300 and 450 euros. Especially for those who find the graphics of games and VR experiences less important than actually being able to experience all those apps, this can be an attractive offer for a lower price. Meta Quest 3 costs 550 euros for the most basic version. Quest 3 was released in October 2023, so we expect the announcement of the 3S next month.
