Meta is reportedly planning to release a new Meta Quest 4 in 2026, with the debut of the more extensive Meta Quest Pro 2 a year later. This is according to a rumor spread by The Information.
The Information let it be known that Meta will also release the Quest 4 in two variants: one is a cheaper variant, the other a more luxurious one, but not as luxurious as the Meta Quest Pro 2, which is supposed to be released in 2027. However, that’s where it will end, because specifications for the virtual reality glasses are still unknown.
Meta Quest 4
It will probably be about glasses that place you in a completely virtual world, although you can possibly see the real world through the camera on the outside, just like on the Quest 2 and 3, on which certain content is then ‘projected’. For example, on those current VR glasses you can see your living room with a browser window on top of it. This way you can surf the internet and at the same time make sure that you are not completely sucked into the virtual world.
Meta Quest 3 is a VR headset that was released in October 2023 and cost 549 euros. The VR headset runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor and contains two LCD screens of 2064 x 2208 pixels per eye (90 or 120 Hz). The Meta Quest Pro was released in October 2022 and costs a hefty 1209 euros. For that you buy a virtual reality headset with a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 1 processor, two mini-LED LCD screens of 3600 x 1920 pixels (90 Hz).
Reality Labs
It will be exciting to see what new things will come: Reality Labs, the department that is responsible for the innovations and experiments on Meta’s VR headsets, should shrink. It is expected to have a 20 percent smaller budget. We will now have to wait until Meta comes with confirmation, but multiple VR headsets are said to be in the making, so the rumors are not completely out of the blue.
