Meta has given the Quest app a major update and the focus is clearly on the metaverse Horizon Worlds. Horizon Worlds has been out for many years now, but has had a rather messy existence. It seems that Meta wants to do more with the metaverse. Also in the Netherlands, as appears from updated help pages.
The app now lets you complete quests and customize your avatar on your phone. Horizon Worlds has long been available in English-speaking countries, but all indications are that it will soon be coming to several European countries. This is evident from a ‘frequently asked questions’ page that was posted 3 days ago updatedbut also a page that lists the supported countries. Meta writes on this: “Meta Horizon Worlds is gradually being introduced on Meta Quest, mobile and computer in all Meta Quest supported countries and languages.” Below is a list of countries, which also includes Belgium and the Netherlands.
Horizon Worlds
In any case, the Quest app is now more focused on Horizon Worlds. Not yet for Dutch Quest users, but in America the app seems to be full of references to Horizon Worlds. You can still use the app to set up your Quest VR glasses and view the apps in the app store. There is also now a light mode available for the app, making it easier to switch between light and dark. In the Netherlands, there are references to various worlds in Horizon Worlds, but the Worlds app itself is not yet widely available in our region. There was more availability for a while, but that seemed to disappear again quite quickly afterwards.
Meta wants to lend the Horizon OS operating system to other companies, such as Asus. They will then pay for a license to use it in their hardware. However, we are especially curious whether Horizon Worlds will finally be made more widely available. It has had a somewhat bumpy road, partly due to poor visuals and the lack of legs (which have since been added), but this would be the skeleton of the promising metaverse that Zuckerberg announced in 2021.
