Meta sees the future through the lens of augmented reality. She presented a prototype of glasses with artificial intelligence – Technologies – Science and technology

The most advanced glasses in the world or just another step aside? Mark Zuckerberg showed glasses with a neural interface, which are connected to the brain through a special bracelet. He also introduced a cheaper model of the Meta Quest 3S virtual reality headset.

It is supposed to be “the most advanced glasses the world has ever seen.” At a press conference, Mark Zuckerberg presented his vision of connecting the real world with the virtual one. Billions of dollars invested in the development of new technologies culminated in the presentation of a prototype of Orion glasses, which are supposed to bring fully holographic augmented reality to ordinary consumers. And while they’re not yet ready for commercial release, Orion integrates breakthrough technologies including hand, eye tracking and even a neural interface that would allow users to control virtual reality and objects within it with just simple gestures or eye movements.

This new concept of augmented reality, which Meta calls “mixed reality”, allows virtual objects to interact with the physical world in ways that have not been possible before. This should make augmented reality much more natural and practical for everyday use. Some technology journalists and technology partners could already try the prototypes of the glasses. Zuckerberg expects Orion to bring a breakthrough in the use of augmented reality in various fields, from entertainment to productivity to education.

Meta stayed on the ground with the Quest 3S headset

In addition to Orion Meta glasses, it also launched the new Meta Quest 3S headset, which will be on sale from October 15. Quest 3S is a more affordable version of the Quest 3 model with slightly worse parameters. For example, it does not offer a display with 4K resolution, there are only two frequencies to choose from, 90 and 120 Hz (Quest 3 offers greater variability – 72, 80, 90 and 120 Hz). The other specifications are not so bad as to discourage potential buyers, who can save up to two hundred on the basic version of the Quest 3S. In addition, the headset is compatible with all applications and games designed for Quest, while also bringing several improvements in the field of performance and possibilities of use.

Interestingly, Meta plans to end sales of older models such as the Quest 2 and Quest Pro, thus trying to keep its portfolio as up-to-date as possible and focus mainly on new generations of VR and AR headsets, whose hardware is also ready for the future. As stated by Mark Zuckerberg, the goal of Meta is to create an environment where the boundaries between reality and the digital world blur, and where these technologies will serve to improve the quality of life of users.

Artificial intelligence will power WhatsApp or Instagram

Meta didn’t stop at just hardware news. The company also announced significant improvements in artificial intelligence. Meta AI is now able to interact with users through various platforms such as Messenger, WhatsApp or Instagram. In addition, it offers users the opportunity to communicate through the voices of famous personalities such as John Cena or Judi Dench.

Meta AI is becoming an increasingly integrated part of the company’s ecosystem, with the latest models such as Llama 3.2 able to analyze and process not only text, but also image and graphic data. This means that Meta AI will be able to provide much more sophisticated answers and information.
