Mette Frederiksen receives a royal order

As the first Social Democratic Prime Minister, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S) received an order from King Frederik on Friday.

The Prime Minister himself announced this on the social media Instagram.

– Today I was at Amalienborg with HM King Frederik X, where I received this beautiful order. I am therefore now appointed Commander of the 1st degree of the Order of the Dane, writes Mette Frederiksen.

The Social Democrats have previously had a principle of renouncing royal orders and medals.

However, the party chose to drop it in January, the Prime Minister stated at the time.

– From here on, it will be up to the individual social democrat whether they want to accept it. The times are different than they were 100 years ago, when that tradition was established, said Mette Frederiksen.

On Instagram, the prime minister writes that she accepts the royal order for several reasons.

Among other things, she mentions that she has great respect for Queen Margrethe’s efforts and the royal family’s work for Denmark.

– The Royal House is an important part of our culture and of us Danes. And I am convinced that the Royal Couple will lead the Royal House forward safely and well, writes the Prime Minister.
