Mexia will have accumulated six million in offshore – Justice

Former EDP CEO António Mexia is said to have accumulated six million dollars in an offshore account in the British Virgin Islands between 2014 and 2019, according to documentation from the Pandora Papers consulted by Expresso.

According to the documentation referred to by the newspaper, in June 2017, Miamex Ventures had a total of 5.9 million dollars in financial assets, including 1.4 million dollars invested in investment funds, 2.7 million in corporate bonds and 1.7 million in bank deposits.

The amount would be in the name of Miamex Ventures and would be managed by Portuguese financial manager Bernardo d’Orey, vice-president of EFG Capital, a brokerage firm with an office in the same building that was the headquarters of Banco Espírito Santo (BES) in Miami, the weekly reports. The offshore company was reportedly closed in 2020.

According to Expresso and the ICIJ (International Consortium of Investigative Journalists)a new leak of information, originating from the financial firm Boreal Capital Management, reveals that Bernardo d’Orey will have identified Mexia as the beneficiary of Miamex Ventures and will even have mentioned the six million held by the manager.

Mexia is being investigated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in three criminal cases and was named a defendant in 2017, on suspicion of alleged financial crimes while he was head of EDP.
