MG’s new 4-door fastback

Reborn years ago thanks to the Chinese SAIC Group, brand MG is back with numerous models, powered by different types of powertrains. From purely thermal to electric, passing through full hybrid systems like the one that debuted on the MG3. A heterogeneous range which, while focusing on SUVs, also looks at other body types: on the one hand the sporty coupé (and cabriolet) Cyerster, on the other the aforementioned MG3, a small competitor of the Toyota Yaris, without forgetting the MG5 station wagon.

Now the MG family grows further with the arrival of the MG GT4-door sedan similar in appearance to the Hyundai i30 Fastback, with sporty lines and attractive prices. Available on the Middle Eastern and South American markets, it has a price list starting from 12,900 dollars in Chile, equal to just under 12,000 euros at the current exchange rate. Let’s discover it together.

Sportswear

4.68 metres long, the MG GT has particularly sleek lines and 4 door bodya detail that penalizes access to the trunk, of which there is no data on the capacity. The front is characterized by a particularly large grille and a hood that slopes towards the front, a stylistic feature common to all the most recent MGs.

The roof, being a fastback, begins to slope gently towards the rear starting from the B-pillar, ideally merging with the tail.

The interiors are very classic, with digital instrumentation and a central monitor for the infotainment system and a few physical buttons, collected in a row below the infotainment screen.

Only petrol

The MG GT’s engine range is stripped down to the bare minimum and is based solely on a 1.5 petrol available in a 112 hp naturally aspirated or 160 hp turbo version, with the latter version paired exclusively with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, with a top speed of 215 km/h.

The standard equipment includes, among other things, automatic climate control, 16″ alloy wheelsfull LED lights, sunroof, 10″ central monitor and rear camera.

Will it come to Europe?

As mentioned, we still don’t know if the MG GT will arrive in Europe. Of course, in the Old Continent the hunger for SUVs is not satisfied, but a model with a sporty style and good habitability (a fact that is still to be verified) might not displease those looking for models different from the classic ones with raised trim.

If he prezzo could stay low and perhaps with the availability of the full hybrid powertrain, available on the MG3 and the new MG ZS, the MG fastback could carve out its own space in the market.
