Michael Schumacher’s Ferrari 248 F1 under the hammer

The iconic Ferrari 248 F1 chassis number 254 driven by Michael Schumacher in the 2006 Formula 1 championship goes under the hammer next month and is expected to sell for over $15 million.

This particular car was driven by Schumacher in his final season at Ferrari and managed to achieve five victories, at the San Marino, European, United States, French and German Grands Prix. He recorded three pole positions, three more second place finishes and four fastest laps.

It was also the car in which Schumacher overtook Ayrton Senna’s pole position record and in which he achieved both his last pole position and last Grand Prix victory on German soil. It was the year he was aiming for his eighth title but fell short due to Fernando Alonso being crowned champion for the second season in a row.

At the heart of the Ferrari 248 F1 is a 2.4-liter V8 engine that produces 750 horsepower. The car was acquired directly from Ferrari by its current owner and holds the prestigious Ferrari Classiche certification, which it received in 2008.

The auction will be conducted by RM Sotheby’s under seal. This confidential bidding process is often used for rare and valuable items, ensuring an exclusive and discreet buying experience for potential buyers.

Market interest in Schumacher’s F1 cars remains high over the years. The previous models from 2001, 2002 and 2003 sold for significant sums, with some exceeding six million euros.

The record for the most expensive F1 car is held by the 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196R, which sold for around $29.6 million in 2013.

More recent sales include a Ferrari F2001B estimated to fetch between $8-10 million last August.

The Ferrari 248 F1 is likely to surpass $15 million and become one of the most expensive Formula 1 cars of all time.
