Azure AI Foundry will be launched in November 2023 and opened to the public in May. Azure AI StudioThis is an expanded version that integrates new updates. Like Azure AI Studio, Microsoft is marketing it as a “unified application platform for the AI era.”
Azure AI Studio is a generative AI app development platform that provides some support for model filtering, model benchmarking, prompt engineering, RAG, agent building, AI safety guardrails, and low-code development. It supports voice, visual, and language functions, allowing you to build apps that read multilingual text and images and support voice. Azure AI Studio is different from Microsoft Copilot Studio, which some experts describe as “a second-tier, low-code tool for personalizing chatbots.”
What is Azure AI Foundry?
The new Azure AI Foundry service consists of the Azure AI Foundry portal, previously known as Azure AI Studio, the Azure AI Foundry software development kit (SDK), Azure AI Agents, pre-built application templates, and AI-based application development tools.
Azure AI Foundry SDK provides an AI toolchain that allows you to utilize Azure AI services and functions in development tools such as GitHub and Visual Studio. This allows developers to easily build applications that can be integrated with various programs.
Microsoft announced that it has transformed Azure AI Studio into the Azure AI Foundry portal with new updates to support developing, running, and managing AI-based applications.
Key features of Azure AI Foundry
Azure AI Foundry serves as a unified management console in a similar way to the AWS Management Console. It is designed to allow business users to view various cloud service tools at a glance, including cost estimators, usage check tools, and billing consoles.
A new management center experience has been introduced within the Azure AI Foundry portal. Here you can check your subscription information (connected resources, access rights, quota usage, etc.) in one place. “It saves development teams time and streamlines security and compliance workflows throughout the AI lifecycle,” Microsoft explained.
Additionally, industry-specific generative AI models provided by various companies such as Bayer, Sight Machine, Rockwell Automation, Saifr/Fidelity Labs, and Paige.ai have been added. . These models are designed for healthcare, finance, IT, and manufacturing industries.
New Azure AI agent service
The Azure AI Agent service in Azure AI Foundry is an upgraded version of the agent provided by the existing Azure AI Studio. It belongs to the autonomous AI agent released by Microsoft last October.
Autonomous AI agents, also called agent AI, focus on automating business processes without user intervention. However, Microsoft explained that the agent will ask the user to review or take action before the final action. The explanation is that it is a procedure designed to ensure that autonomous agents operate responsibly.
On the other hand, the agent bundled with Azure AI Studio is a conversational search agent, which is essentially an extension of the conversational LLM concept combined with tools, code, embeddings, and vector stores.
Other updates packaged with Azure AI Foundry include updates to Azure AI Search including a generative query engine, features migrated from the Azure OpenAI service, streamlined navigation, and more detailed documentation.
