Microsoft is preparing its own handheld console, but not for several years

Several companies have entered the handheld console market in recent years with different approaches. Apparently, there are still unique opportunities here that Microsoft will want to take advantage of.

The director confirmed plans to create his own portable game console Microsoft Gaming Phil Spencer. But at the moment such a product is years away, engineers are now working on prototypes and thinking about how to actually approach the whole thing. But Spencer revealed one thing, and that is that the console should be able to play games locally, and therefore contain enough power for that – it will not go the way of, for example, Logitech, which released a purely cloud-focused handheld.

Spencer already hinted at his own handheld console in June this year at the Xbox Games Showcase, and in March he speculated for Polygon magazine about how a hypothetical handheld console would work to represent the soul of Xbox. But if the project is not cancelled, we will still have to wait several years.

During that time, however, we may also see an intergenerational upgrade of the Xbox Series X, which, according to speculation, is called Brooklin. It should contain 2 TB of storage and 16 GB of RAM, but despite the already released PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox is still waiting for an announcement. In 2028, we should expect the next generation of Xbox, which Microsoft is already officially working on.
