Microsoft releases first test version of controversial AI function

Microsoft has made the controversial Recall feature available to software testers. The feature came under a lot of criticism when the tech company introduced it in May.

Recall is controversial because the feature causes your computer to take a screenshot several times a minute. The intention is that you as a user can easily look back at what you have done on your computer. But when Microsoft announced the AI feature, there was a lot of criticism.

The feature could pose a potential security risk to users. To resolve those security risks, Microsoft has made several changes. As a result, the Recall function was postponed several times.

Limited number of users can test now

Recall uses multiple AI models to function. As a result, the function can only be tested for the time being for people with a so-called Copilot+ PC. These are PCs with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon processor. Later, other computers can also use it.

To test the function you must be a so-called Insider in the Dev Channel. On this page you can read more about the test.
