Microsoft Retires Password Autofill Plugin for Chrome

Microsoft is a company that saves users’ passwords, addresses and payment information, allowing information to be automatically filled in on the websites they visit. Microsoft Autofill announced that it will retire the Google Chrome version of its extension. Support for the plugin will end on December 14, 2024.

Microsoft had published it on the Chrome Web Store to offer the same experience to Google Chrome users. The feature, just like in the Microsoft Edge browser, was used to automatically fill in this information if users had passwords or usernames saved according to the websites they visited. Additionally, since this autofill plugin uses a Microsoft account, it could also be used on Windows, macOS, Android and iOS.

As we said before, the add-on will be shelved on December 14. Microsoft has also disabled saving new information or editing existing information as of November 14, 2024.

To continue using the Chrome web browser with this data, users can export their data using Microsoft Edge and import the exported CSV file into Google Password Manager in Chrome. Microsoft stated that payment information saved in the Autofill Chrome Extension cannot be used in a Microsoft Account because it is stored locally in the extension.
