According to DownDetector, a service interruption tracking site, users began noticing the problem around 9 a.m. on this day. The number of cases of user connection failure was calculated to be more than 5,000.

MS also confirmed the connection failure through X and explained that this was due to ‘recent changes’ to the software. It was announced that a software update had been distributed to 98% of customers around 12 PM, but the number of connection failures continued to increase.

Microsoft said it was still facing recovery delays as of 2 p.m. and was working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

This incident is a reminder that today’s computer systems are sometimes vulnerable and that the entire world depends on them, the NYT reported.

Last July, a software update defect caused by the cybersecurity company CrowdStrike caused a malfunction in the Microsoft Windows system, causing various systems including airlines and hospitals to go down, causing an IT crisis.
