Progress is apparently being made in high-level talks on a cease-fire in Gaza, with Arab and American negotiators currently pushing for an end to the fighting and the release of Hamas hostages before Donald Trump takes office as president on January 20.
The biggest snags have been cleared out of the way and an agreement on a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is very close, a spokesperson from Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs told the Reuters news agency on Tuesday.
