Almost a year ago, it was announced that the drummer Mike Portnoy returned Dream Theater– in after 13 years. Now he is preparing to play his first shows with the band in more than 14 years. Soon fans in our region will have a chance to see them live on October 29, 2024 in the Arena in Zagreb.

The progressive metal gods kick off a month-long UK and European tour on October 20 at The O2 Arena in London. In December, they will continue with a tour of South America, and then in February they will embark on a 40th anniversary tour in North America.

“On a personal level, it was amazing,” he said Portnoy. “I couldn’t be happier to be back home, with my family. We started this band as teenagers almost 40 years ago. And, indeed, everything works as it should. I feel that this is where I want to be, and where I should be.”

He added, “However, it’s unbelievable that it’s been almost a year without the public seeing the five of us together… I’ve been on tour with The Winery Dogsand we weren’t even together when we decided to get together again. When we finally got together in February of this year to start recording the album, we spent the whole year in the studio. We spent all this time together, but the public still hasn’t heard the music, hasn’t seen the performance, hasn’t even had the chance to see the footage of us together. So it was really hard to keep it all a secret.”

“We have a tour coming up, which is extremely exciting. Very soon we will start sharing more information about the album… It’s all finally coming together, but it’s strange because we’ve been together for almost a year, and now the public presentation is slowly starting.”

Talking about the feeling he will get when he goes on tour again with Dream Theater after more than 14 years, especially at that first concert in London, Portnoy he describes it as the realization of a recurring dream.

“I can’t wait,” he exclaimed. “Even thinking about it gives me goosebumps. I think that every night during the next year, every first night in any city — whatever it is Detroit, Paris or Tokioeach of those first nights in each of these cities during the year — to be extremely exciting and special for each person in the audience. Whether it’s fans who haven’t seen this line-up in almost 15 years or new people who have never had the chance to see this line-up before, every night will be special.”
