DAPURPACUID – PT Hutama Karya completed the Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 (Nataru) periods, with millions of vehicles passing the Trans Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS).
During the 2024/2025 Christmas Exciting Holiday period, 20 December 2024 – 5 January 2025, as many as 2.2 million vehicles passed through JTTS or an increase of 37 percent from normal traffic.
In its official statement, Monday (6/1), the company claimed that this number also showed a significant increase compared to the same period the previous year.
It was stated that the highest mobility traffic was recorded on December 29 2024, with more than 148,060 vehicles passing in one day, which was the highest record during that period.
Overall, significant increases occurred on various toll roads, including the Kuala Tanjung – Tebing Tinggi – Parapat toll road, which is one of the favorite routes to the leading tourist destination Lake Toba.
Meanwhile, the Sigli – Banda Aceh Section Seulimeum - Baitussalam toll road section recorded a significant increase of 98.6 percent compared to normal traffic.
Director of Operations III Hutama Karya, Koentjoro, said that the increase in traffic cannot be separated from the company’s sustainability in improving accessibility and service quality on all JTTS sections.
Including the promised infrastructure support that will continue to be maintained to ensure the smooth flow of vehicles, especially during the peak moments of the last Christmas holiday.
“This increase in traffic reflects the high level of public interest in using JTTS as the main route for inter-regional mobility, especially in the northern region of Sumatra,” he said.
This is in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s direction, who asked for careful preparation to ensure that people can enjoy the Christmas holiday safely and in an orderly manner.
According to Prabowo, society must be able to face New Year’s Eve safely, orderly and smoothly. Including while people travel on toll roads.
“I am sure we will be able to carry out preparations as well as possible. “This is also momentum to improve our economy,” he said, as reported by Infopublik.
Furthermore, Koentjoro explained, apart from operational toll roads, Hutama Karya also opened four functional toll roads during the 2024/2025 Christmas period.
Namely the Padang – Sicincin Toll Road, Binjai – Langsa Section Tanjung Pura – Pangkalan Brandan Toll Road, Kuala Tanjung – Indrapura Toll Road, and Sigli – Banda Aceh Section 1 Seulimeum – Padang Tiji Toll Road.
These four functional sections recorded total traffic of up to 115,583 vehicles, with the Padang – Sicincin Toll Road being the busiest, recording 46,900 vehicles.
“The Padang – Sicincin toll road is excellent because it connects people to Bukittinggi, one of the main tourist destinations in West Sumatra Province,” he added.
Even though there was a spike in traffic, Hutama Karya succeeded in reducing the number of accidents. During the 2024/2025 Christmas Holiday period, the number of accidents was recorded to have decreased by 12.5 percent compared to the previous year.
This reduction was the result of various mitigation efforts carried out, such as 24-hour intensive patrols, monitoring posts with local regional police.
This includes a sympathetic operations program carried out at toll gates and rest areas during vulnerable hours, to anticipate accidents caused by drowsiness.
During that period it also succeeded in minimizing long traffic jams, thanks to the addition of 22 mobile reader units, to 167 and 21,000 electronic money. This step is effective in reducing queues at toll gates.
Hutama Karya appreciates the cooperation of various parties such as the National Police, TNI, Transportation Service, BNPB and other stakeholders, who collaborate to maintain the smooth operation of JTTS during Christmas 2024/2025.
“This success is an important asset for us to prepare the best service for the upcoming Eid Homecoming 2025,” concluded Koentjoro. (dpid/TH)
