The Foodwatch association files two new complaints for deception against mineral water giants.
Revelations of massive fraud
It is a gigantic scandal: billions of bottles which no longer had anything of natural mineral or spring water were sold in France, revealed Foodwatch. Now it is time for Nestlé Waters (Perrier, Vittel, Hépar, Contrex, San Pellegrino, etc.) and Sources Alma (Cristaline, Vichy Célestins, St-Yorre, Chateldon, etc.) to be held accountable. Indeed, these industry giants are said to have illegally filtered their bottled water. Can we still talk about spring water or natural mineral water in this case?
“Following these revelations of massive fraud and despite complaints from FoodWatch, these groups are playing the silence card,” the association emphasizes. “Let’s not let them do this: together, let’s put pressure on these bottled water giants who think they can do whatever they want, so that they are held accountable without delay!” The Foodwatch association will therefore file a complaint in Paris with civil action in order to obtain an investigating judge to look into the case of these fraudulent practices by the Sources Alma group and Nestlé.

Decades of fraud
Following the first complaint filed by Foodwatch, in February 2024, the Epinal court decided to close the case against Nestlé Waters Grand Est. Paying two million euros in damages through a financial transaction had thus allowed Nestlé to avoid answering questions. “Because impunity in this case is unacceptable, because the authorities who knew chose to remain silent, because European law protects consumers, because the facts are serious and the fraud is massive, Foodwatch is therefore re-filing two complaints with the aim of to see an investigating judge finally take charge of these cases and bring them to trial », details the association.
Foodwatch is asking for an exhaustive list of fraudulent products and products affected by these contaminations or risks of contamination, the brands and batches of bottles concerned as well as their marketing date. The association does not hesitate to talk about a case of massive fraud that has affected the entire world for decades. More broadly, it also asks questions about the complacency of the State, or even its responsibility: “We want to know. We want a trial and exemplary sanctions. Enough of believing we are above the law and above everyone.”
