Mini is recalling 140,000 Cooper SEs worldwide because their high-voltage batteries can overheat and catch fire, even when the cars are parked.

To date the company is aware of two incidents, one in the USA and one in Germany, and fortunately no one was injured in them,

The company will install new software in the recalled cars that has a diagnostic function that will be able to recognize battery malfunction and alert the driver. In addition, it will discharge the battery at 30% of the charge level.
