Hatay, the city of civilizations, suffered heavy destruction in the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes. In addition to thousands of residences, the century-old buildings in the city center and the landmarks of the city such as the Historical Uzun Bazaar, Kemalpaşa and Kurtuluş Street succumbed to the earthquake. Murat Kurum, Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, did not leave the people of Hatay alone in the earthquake zone, which he visited 21 times in 4 months after he took office again. Upon the instructions of the Minister Kurum, who listened to the demands of the Uzun Çarşı tradesmen, the Uzun Çarşı tradesmen moved to the prefabricated bazaar. Urban Transformation Directorate and TOKİ started reconstruction and revival works in Historical Uzun Çarşı, Kemalpaşa and Kurtuluş streets.
131 WORKPLACES ARE BEING BUILT IN THE FIRST PHASE OF UZUN CARŞI.
The tender for the Historical Long Bazaar was held on October 4. Within the scope of the project carried out by TOKİ, in the first phase of Uzun Çarşı, 131 shops and workplaces in line with Antakya architecture will be built in 3 islands on an area of 6 thousand 441 square meters. Drilling operations have started in the region. Workplaces will be built in a way that does not exceed ground floor + 1.
DESTROYED KEMALPASA AND KURTULUS STREETS ARE BEING RESTORED
Construction continues in 11 stages on an area of 20 thousand square meters on Kemalpaşa Street, which is registered as a protected area, by the Urban Transformation Directorate. The construction of 426 shops in 7 stages started. On Kurtuluş Street, known as the “first illuminated street in the world”, 54 shops and 47 residences will be built by TOKİ on an area of 11 thousand 254 square meters within 4 islands.

Stating that they continue to trade in the prefabricated market, shopkeeper Uğur Yılmaz said, “We started to hold on to life and be reborn. It was very advantageous for us to have our container shops right next to the market. Since we see with our own eyes how the market is progressing in this location, our hearts are very happy and comfortable in this regard. Of course, work takes time. We chew and swallow even when eating a loaf of bread. It is very difficult to swallow a big mouthful. This is like this. “I’m sure that with a little patience and a little tolerance, everything will be better,” he said. Bazaar tradesman Uğur Öztürk stated that the Minister Kurum came to the region and frequently consulted with the tradesmen and said, “They got ideas from us. “I think we will definitely create an environment where our citizens will be much more satisfied,” he said.
