The president of SaS and former minister of education Branislav Gröhling responded that he will praise this government if it announces a further salary increase.

More for teachers

“We are also discussing with employee representatives and the Ministry of Finance. We won’t go out with the numbers, but the Ministry of Finance has a submission from us on how much we want,” Drucker said. According to him, raising salaries in education is an essential element of employee motivation.

Gröhling recalled that during his tenure he increased teachers’ salaries. He criticized the government, saying that it has money to increase its salaries, 13. pensions or celebrate holidays, but cannot find it for teachers. According to him, the government cabinet could adopt into law an automatic system for increasing teachers’ salaries.

Gröhling considers the “gentle revolution” in education, which was recently approved by the government, to be technical changes. He considers the fines of the State School Inspection, which could be given to schools repeatedly, to be a negative. He fears their abuse. According to Gröhling, the transfer of competences from the municipality to the state in the case of kindergartens is positive.

He rejects SNS interventions

Drucker claims that the content of education will always be decided exclusively by educators and experts during his tenure. “We have established a curriculum council. It is a group of experts from primary, secondary and higher schools, across the spectrum of school types, there are also church, private, state schools, various associations, employee representatives,” added the minister. According to his own words, he discusses sensitive issues in education with them.

In the session, he also responded to the SNS parliamentary proposal, which they want to limit the promotion of topics related to sexual orientation and gender identity in schools.

Drucker considers the submission of proposals from another coalition party that interfere with the department’s competences without the consent of the minister as a violation of the coalition agreement. At the same time, however, it does not disturb him. “For me, it is important that we have government laws that go to the parliament and will be approved,” he pointed out.

On the contrary, it disturbs Gröhling. “I would expect your MPs to have a press conference with you tomorrow and you will all be there rejecting this proposal and standing up for you,”

he stated.
