Minister travels to China to discuss Danish-Chinese cooperation

In areas such as green research, climate change, the environment and global health, China is an important partner for Denmark and the whole world.

This is one of the reasons why Education and Research Minister Christina Egelund (M) is traveling to China on Saturday to discuss opportunities and challenges in Danish-Chinese cooperation.

This is what the minister says in a press release from the Ministry of Education and Research.

– For 75 years, Denmark has had diplomatic relations with China. Over the years, China has developed into a global heavyweight when it comes to research and innovation, says the minister.

She points out that in areas such as quantum, space and defense research, Denmark must be careful in relation to cooperation with China.

– It is no secret that our two countries look at a number of things differently, and that we in Denmark have sharpened our approach to cooperation with China, she says.

The visit to China comes a few days after Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S) mentioned China in her New Year’s speech in connection with threats against Denmark and Europe.

– And in the background is China. Without Chinese support, Russia would not be able to attack Europe as they do. It is clear, said the Prime Minister.

During her visit, Christina Egelund will meet with the Chinese Minister of Education and the Chinese Minister of Science and Technology, with whom she will sign “tailored cooperation agreements”, the ministry writes.

During the visit, Christina Egelund will also visit the Danish-Chinese university center Sino-Danish Center (SDC) and meet representatives from Danish companies with research and innovation efforts in China.
