(Seoul = Newsis) Reporter Kim Seon-woong = Regarding the issue raised by Olympic badminton women’s singles gold medalist Ahn Se-young, the Korea Badminton Association will hold its own fact-finding committee on the 16th at a private time and place. (Seoul = Newsis) Reporter Ha Geun-su = The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, which had begun an investigation into various suspicions surrounding the Korea Badminton Association, is holding an interim briefing.
On the morning of the 10th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will hold an interim report on the status of the Badminton Association’s office inspection and subsidy review at the Seoul Government Complex in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
The schedule originally scheduled for the 9th has been postponed to the 10th, and Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yoo In-chon will not attend due to attending the Korea-China-Japan Culture and Tourism Ministers’ Meeting.
At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Korean badminton won a silver medal in the mixed doubles with Kim Won-ho (Samsung Life Insurance) and Jeong Na-eun (Hwasun County Office) and a gold medal in the women’s singles with An Se-young (Samsung Life Insurance).
In particular, Ahn Se-young announced the leap forward of Korean badminton by winning gold in the women’s singles event for the first time in 28 years since Bang Soo-hyun at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
However, before the excitement of winning the gold medal had even subsided, Ahn Se-young shocked the Badminton Association by making a statement that she had been holding back.
He pointed out the association’s lax management of player injuries, as well as the excessive participation in competitions, hiring of trainers, singles and doubles training methods, and physical training programs.

Eventually, after the Paris Olympics ended, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism took action.
Last month, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced, “We will begin an investigation into the Badminton Association,” and “This investigation will be conducted strictly so that no public suspicion remains, and on the principle of fairness without bias toward either side.”
The sports director said, “It is the natural attitude that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and sports organizations should have to listen to the voices of the athletes,” and “the fundamental question of the investigation is whether the association is doing its job for the athletes.”
It has been reported that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is looking into the situation related to Ahn Se-young as well as the institutional issues of the Badminton Association, the status of subsidy execution and operation, and violations of subsidy policy.
The Badminton Association is also investigating allegations that it received additional secret contracts with companies for up to 30% of the total quantity of shuttlecocks purchased as a government project.

Minister Yoo has been calling for a comprehensive reform of the sports world since the controversy surrounding the Badminton Association erupted.
At the plenary session of the National Assembly Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee on the 26th of last month, he criticized, “It should be a policy that takes sports and athletes into consideration, but it is too privatized. I think sports have been ‘organized politically.'”
He continued, “There were various opinions before, but progress was not made well. Now that the Olympics are over and there are no major international competitions, I will organize a comprehensive reform of sports policy.”
Attention is focused on whether the various suspicions surrounding the Badminton Association that surfaced after Ahn Se-young’s revelations can be clearly revealed and improved in the right direction under the investigation of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
