Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, Central Pharmaceutical Affairs Council, expanded and reorganized to a total of 417 members

(Health Korea News / Yu Ji-in) The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has expanded and reorganized the Central Pharmaceutical Affairs Council (Central Pharmaceutical Affairs Council) and newly formed it and awarded certificates of appointment as the term of the members (August 8, 2022 to August 7, 2024) expires. The number of newly formed members has increased from 264 to 417.

The Central Pharmaceutical Affairs Council is an organization that deliberates and advises on matters related to pharmaceutical policies, standards, safety, and efficacy, etc., in response to the advice of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and the Minister of Health and Welfare. The term of office is two years.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety explained that in order to secure expertise and objectivity in line with the current situation where various medicines using the latest technology are being developed, in addition to the 250 Central Pharmaceutical Affairs Council members, a pool of 167 experts was appointed as members based on their specialties and fields according to the agenda. Through this, experts from various fields will be able to participate in the deliberation of agenda items.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has decided to improve the procedure to allow for preliminary review before final review when necessary by utilizing a pool of experts to support faithful and thorough deliberation. In order to strengthen communication with the committee, workshops and discussions will also be held periodically to introduce pharmaceutical policies and systems to experts who have become members of the Central Pharmaceutical Affairs Council.
