The Democratic Party of Korea’s ‘Committee to Counter Prosecution Dictatorship and Political Suppression’ announced on the 30th that it had filed a complaint with the High-ranking Officials’ Corruption Investigation Office (Public Prosecutor’s Office) against Suwon District Prosecutors’ Office’s 6th Criminal Division Chief Prosecutor Seo Hyeon-wook, who indicted former representative Lee Jae-myung without detention on charges of involvement in the Ssangbangwool Group North Korea remittance case.
The countermeasure committee stated this at a press conference at the National Assembly, claiming that the indictment written by the prosecution containing the charges against former representative Lee was false. They claimed, “Prosecutor Seo is no different from completing a false third-rate novel by making it seem as if Lee Jae-myung ‘knew that Ssangbangwool Group was paying for Gyeonggi Province’s smart farm costs.’”
The countermeasure committee said, “The political prosecution’s manipulation of cases led to a falsely fabricated indictment,” and “The only evidence that can be found in the indictment is false statements fabricated to suit their (the prosecution’s) tastes.” They continued, “The entire process can only be seen as part of a political operation targeting the former representative,” and “We must absolutely break this vicious cycle of targeted investigations and fabricated investigations to eliminate political enemies.” Former Gyeonggi Vice Governor Lee Hwa-young, who is suspected of being an accomplice with the former representative in the North Korean remittance case, was sentenced to 9 years and 6 months in prison in the first trial in June.
