The Democratic Party of Korea said on the 17th that the ruling party should actively urge an investigation into allegations that Han Dong-hoon, the People Power Party’s party leader candidate, operated a so-called “comment team” while serving as Minister of Justice.

Spokesperson Han Min-soo met with reporters after the closed-door Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly building this morning and said, “Since the suspicions surrounding Candidate Han’s comment team were first raised within the People Power Party, there were opinions that the ruling party should call for an investigation.”

A spokesperson asked, “What would have happened if this kind of talk had been made at our party’s national convention?” and “Would the current Yoon Seok-yeol administration’s prosecution have remained silent?”

He claimed, “If there had been a comment team operating at our party’s national convention or if the First Lady had mentioned a comment team, would (the Yoon administration) have just sat still?” and “As we saw during the investigation of former Justice Minister Cho Kuk, they would have conducted simultaneous searches and seizures in dozens of locations.”

He then emphasized, “Wouldn’t those points serve as a basis for the people to understand the true nature of this government?”

Regarding the party-level response plan related to the suspicions surrounding Mrs. Kim, he said, “There was nothing discussed today,” but added, “We will respond sequentially.”

The party leadership has decided not to participate in the flood recovery activities scheduled for the 18th. A spokesperson said, “Tomorrow’s flood recovery activities will be centered around the candidates running for the party convention and the party members in those areas.”
