Domestic. Bone remains have been found and now confirmed to belong to 15-year-old Lillemor Thorsson, who disappeared in Strömnäs in Kramfors municipality on January 31, 1970. A disappearance that could be linked to the so-called Ådalsman.
Skeletal parts were found in August 2023 when divers went into the water under the Sandö Bridge in Kramfors municipality. The dive was part of the marine archaeological project Ångermanälven’s underwater cultural heritage, which included examining and documenting the bottom under the Sandö Bridge.
At a depth of 16 meters, one of the divers discovered skeletal parts. The scene was filmed and the police were contacted.
On August 28, 2023, the police diving team did a dive at the discovery site and took the remains of the bones with them, which were then sent to the Forensic Medicine Agency in Umeå for examination and DNA collection. There they were able to quickly establish that they were human bones and that they came from a woman.
The police then suspected that it could be the 15-year-old girl, Lillemor Thorsson, who disappeared in 1970 in Kramfors. A disappearance that the so-called Ådalsmann could be linked to after he was arrested. In 1971, he was sentenced for, among other things, grossly causing the death of another.
During the police investigation, it emerged that the woman had relatives in her life, and the police asked if they would voluntarily submit their DNA for examination, which they agreed to. As the relatives were scattered in Sweden and around the world, several parts of the police became involved.
The samples from relatives were sent to the Forensic Genetics Department of the Swedish Medical Examiner’s Office in Linköping for examination and a match could be made.
The next of kin have been informed and have agreed that the police may publish the find.
