YouTube is the most popular service of its kind and its main source of revenue is advertising. Or a Premium subscription, just in case you don’t want to look at ads and would rather pay Google tens every month to not see them. However, complaints are starting to multiply that ads are displayed from time to time even within this subscription.
209 korun for content without advertising
The cheapest YouTube Premium subscription, if we don’t count the student tariff for 129 crowns, is the standard subscription for 209 crowns per month. Of course, the subscription offers more advantages, for example the ability to play even when the display is off, but its main purpose is to turn off ads within YouTube, which are more and more numerous, are getting longer and are almost touching the stars with their annoyingness.
Recently, however, subscribers to this service have begun to hear complaints about being shown ads. Not to the same extent as without a subscription, but advertising has no business in YouTube Premium, according to Google, under any circumstances. Information about this problem was brought to the site 9to5Google and ads are also discussed on the popular Reddit platform.
Where is the buried dog?
Unfortunately, no one knows that, not even Google. Both the placement and appearance of the ads are changing, and some users are reporting that they’re even seeing them within the app. Some occurrences have been reported in Germany, where a new Premium Lite subscription is being tested, which does not completely turn off ads, but only limits them. Unfortunately, this has not been confirmed yet.
For example, some users were shown an ad for an NFL ticket package, which seemed more like a paid partnership or some sort of promoted offer. In short, it is possible that these paid partnerships somehow penetrate YouTube and subscribers, however, they should definitely not interfere in any way with the videos being played.
Contact customer support
If this is happening to you, i.e. you are seeing ads even though you are paying for a Premium subscription, please contact YouTube Customer Support. The fact is that advertising should simply not be part of the platform in the case of a subscription in any form, and it is certainly reasonable to point this out.
