mObywatel is facing a real revolution. What will appear in the application?

Already in 2026, mObywatel will undergo a revolution, thanks to which the application and the documents stored in it will be accepted outside our country. This is a big step for which Poland must properly prepare.

mObywatela is facing far-reaching changes resulting from the eIDAS 2 regulation introduced by the EU, which we wrote about a few months ago. Already then, the Ministry of Digitization commented on the matter, announcing consultations on the development of the popular application and what to do to make it meet the requirements contained in eIDAS2 and how to implement other regulations. A few days ago, Rafał Sionkowski talked about plans for further development of the application as part of the Banking & Insurance Forum event. The head of the digital identity and mobile application development team at the Central IT Center pointed out that another milestone, in the form of mObywatel 3.0 will most likely be achieved in 2026 with the implementation of eIDAS 2.

One of the most important changes in mObywatel 3.0 will be the fact that it will also be recognized in other European countries. So far, none of the documents stored in the application had any use after leaving Poland. In the past, only the so-called the Covid passport stored in mObywatel was recognized in other countries. Moreover, users will receive a free qualified signature, which will make it easier to sign contracts, e.g. with banks or other institutions and offices. Institutions will be able to use mObywatel to confirm the customer’s identity and add information to the system, such as the account number, insurance policy data or tax information. In addition, there are a number of improvements in the security of users – including those who are just installing mObywatel and want to activate the services available in it.

Revolution in mObywatel. Big changes already in 2026

Some time ago, the Ministry of Digitization announced that numerous functionalitieswhich are planned to be implemented in European Digital Identity Wallets, are now available to users of the mObywatel application in the country. The function of transmitting data, presenting mobile documents or a means of identification built into the application that can be used in services to confirm identity – these are just a few examples. Soon, users of European Digital Identity Wallets will also be able to use these functionalities.

However, before we see mObywatel version 3.0, we still have a lot of updates, documents and services that should appear in the next few months. What is being prepared at the Ministry of Digitization and the Central IT Center? The application will include, among others:

  • Development of ePayments
  • Disabled person’s ID card
  • Teacher ID
  • Application for an ID card (yours and your child’s)
  • e-Delivery
  • Signing documents with a trusted profile and e-ID
  • Access to the Contact Data Register
  • Your matters: statuses of citizen’s applications (for ID, passport and others).
  • mCrash
  • Development of the Safely Online service (expansion of the ability to report incidents)
  • Chatbot – a virtual assistant providing information about state services
  • Development of the Company service (setting up sole proprietorships)

Although there is no time frame for their introduction, it is worth waiting for official announcements from the Ministry of Digitization. As soon as there are new features in the application, we will certainly inform you about it. In the meantime, you can now take advantage of a rich catalog of services and documents that can be accessed and used in many cases – without the need to visit the office.
