PKP Intercity and PKP Intercity Remtrak signed contracts for the modernization of 150 wagons. After modernization, 133 of them will be first- and second-class compartmentless carriages.
– The concluded contract is another order worth nearly PLN 1.5 billion in the Polish industry, which will provide 150 modernized wagons. They will serve to further expand the transport offer of PKP Intercity. This contract is not only about modernization. First of all, this is the first such agreement in the history of the company, which ensures maintenance of the wagons at the P3 and P4 level for the next 23 years. – says Adam Wawrzyniak, Member of the Management Board of PKP Intercity.
According to the carrier, almost all elements in the wagons will be replaced: windows, bogies ensuring comfortable travel at a speed of 160 km/h, and electrical devices. The entire interior will also be changed, new seats will be installed, passengers will be able to use sockets for charging laptops and phones, and they will also have access to wireless Internet. There will be air conditioning and the doors will be replaced with automatic ones. A system informing about subsequent stations will be installed, and security will be ensured by a fire protection system and monitoring.
As part of the order, Remtrak will be obliged to carry out inspections and revision repairs until the next modernization. — We will implement such a large contract for the modernization of 150 wagons along with maintenance for many years at our Production Plants: here in Libiszów near Opoczno, in Opole and in Warsaw, where we will rely mainly on Polish components – says Tomasz Zelwowiec, President of PKP Intercity Remtrak Sp. . z o. o
The company announced that it is currently implementing rolling stock contracts worth PLN 16.5 billion. The orders are carried out by the H.Cegielski Vehicle Factory in Poznań, the Pesa factory in Bydgoszcz, Pesa Mińsk Mazowiecki and PKP Intercity Remtrak. They include the construction of modern locomotives, wagons and hybrid trains.
Investments are necessary because, according to the carrier’s data, more and more people choose the railway. No wonder, it is quite a convenient means of transport, and in some cases competitively priced compared to a car. However, it still requires improvements, because there are cities that struggle with transport exclusion – a small number of connections results in travelers choosing their own car, and as a result, a vicious circle is created and the number of connections is reduced. The planned investments for the coming years also exclude track renovations and electrification.
