A former technical manager at Rockstar salutes the in-depth work of a modder who tirelessly corrected the first PC ports of the GTA saga games.

Ports of console games give a new community of players the opportunity to discover iconic titles. However, it is possible that these ports are done in a hurry, or even botched, leading to chaotic launches, like the official compilation GTA Trilogy. The teams of Games Radar spotted the statement from a former technical manager at Rockstar, who praised the work of a modder who fixed many of the bugs in this trilogy of cult games.

“GTA is no exception”

It’s on X (Twitter) that Obbe Vermeij, former technical manager at Rockstar, made a statement to salute the work of modder @Silent. This modder has been correcting the PC ports of the original trilogy games for years Grand Theft Auto with GTA 3, GTA : Vice City et GTA : San Andreas before making available all of its corrective mods in Open Source. A beneficial work that allows the entire modding community to work on healthy foundations and go further.

In his tweet, Vermeij indicates that with his patch entitled “SilentPatch”, the modder corrects 67 problems with GTA 366 pour GTA : Vice City and 165 for GTA : San Andreas specifying that “games have bugs and GTA is no exception”.

Faster than music

A tweet which generated a good number of interactions on X, involving the former technical manager in a question/answer game. Among the latter, some Internet users questioned the disastrous quality of the official compilation of the trilogy GTA. Released in 2021, some have compared it to the Taulé that the launch of Cyberpunk : 2077, referring to a botched compilation with fluidity problems for games originally released on PS2 and Xbox.

Vermeij indicates that he has not played the games from this compilation. Most of “bugs have been fixed since (release)” he specifies before asserting that “yes, the compilation was botched”.
